Puppy pee pads are not made of a single material. Instead, they feature a multi-layer composite structure. Each layer serves a distinct function to deliver rapid liquid penetration, water absorption & retention, and leak-proof performance. Most disposable dog pee pads generally have 5 to 6 layers, composed of top non-woven fabric, diversion paper, fluff pulp, SAP and a bottom PE waterproof film.
The top layer of the puppy pad is hydrophilic non-woven fabric. It is soft, breathable and reasonably tough. Coming into direct contact with puppies' paws and skin, its water permeability keeps paws from staying wet for long, while its toughness prevents puppies from easily tearing the top surface.
Beneath the non-woven fabric lies the diversion absorbent paper, which distributes liquid and spreads urine evenly to avoid overflow caused by urine pooling in one spot. The core absorbent layer in the middle is a blend of fluff pulp and SAP - the most critical component of the pee pad. Fluff pulp is cotton-like pulp made from wood fibers that quickly receives liquid. SAP is a special polymer capable of absorbing tens or even hundreds of times its own weight in water. Upon contact with liquid, it rapidly turns urine into gel, locks in moisture firmly, effectively prevents rewetting and reduces odor spread.
The bottom layer of the dog toilet pad is the PE waterproof film. Acting as a leak-proof barrier, it seals in internal moisture and stops urine from seeping onto floors, carpets or cage bottoms, protecting your home from contamination.
Tianjin Yiyi's dog pee pads adopt a 6-layer design. In addition to the above 5 layers, there is a tissue paper layer between the absorbent layer and the PE film. It holds scattered SAP granules of the absorbent layer in place to prevent powder leakage.
