Brazil's Minas Gerais Health Department confirmed on the 23rd that pet dogs in Brazil were infected with monkeypox virus for the first time. The Ministry of Health of Vietnam recently issued the Guidelines for the Implementation of Surveillance, Prevention and Control of Monkeypox Epidemic Situation, which requires inbound personnel from countries and regions with confirmed monkeypox cases to conduct self health surveillance for 21 days without gathering or going to places with many people. Minas Gerais State Health Department said that a five month old pet dog in the state developed itching symptoms this month, and then developed pustules and skin damage on the back and neck. The final laboratory test result was positive for monkeypox virus.
It is reported that the owner of the dog developed monkeypox symptoms on the 3rd and went home for isolation after being diagnosed in the local hospital on the 6th.
The doctor suggested that the patient and the pet dog should take corresponding isolation measures. The dog feeder should also wear a mask, a long sleeved shirt and trousers, and use disinfected water to disinfect the isolation area. However, the state health department reported that at present, Brazilian researchers have no evidence to prove that monkeypox virus is transmitted from humans to animals or from animals to humans.
In France and the United States, researchers are studying the possibility of monkeypox virus transmission from humans to animals.
As of October 10, 3896 monkeypox cases had been reported in Brazil. The Ministry of Health of Brazil submitted a request to the Health Supervision Bureau for the use of monkeypox vaccine in the country, and the Ministry of Health of Vietnam recently issued the Guidelines for the Implementation of monkeypox Epidemic Monitoring and Prevention and Control. The Ministry of Health said that, at present, Vietnam has not reported confirmed cases of local monkeypox, but it is very likely that monkeypox virus will enter Vietnam. It requires all border ports to carry out temperature measurement and epidemiological investigation, and strengthen monkeypox virus monitoring. During the self health monitoring, if the entry personnel have headache, fever and other suspected symptoms, they should immediately go to the nearest medical institution for diagnosis and treatment.
